Sleep Disorders

Sleep Disorders Centre

Our centre is aiming to offer a detailed assessment of your sleep. The Sleep Specialists will take you through a detailed history and physical examination. We use sophisticated equipment to assess sleep. We aim to complete 90% of our sleep studies at the patients home. We hope to provide an assessment and a sleep study withing 3 weeks from the referral.

Level 1: Overnight oximetry

This study uses a watch to measure a number of parameters. The watch is easy to use and you may use it for 2 nights before you return it.

Oximetry will it give us information on your oxygen levels and pulse. It will let us know if your oxygen levels drops significantly. This may or may not need to be followed by a level 2 study.

Level 2: Respiratory study

This is probably the most suitable as it is accurate and includes many more parameters: Oxygen levels, pulse, Electrocardiogram (ECG), leg movements, belts on the chest and abdomen, snore sounds, body position. This will be examined by 2 specialists and you will be provided with a report.

Level 3: Polysomnography

This includes all the above plus electro-encephalogram so it can give sleep staging and usually comes with video but it may have to be done at the Hospital.
